Layer 1s
8 minute read · intermediate
A layer 1 is a base blockchain that settles its own transactions, such as Bitcoin or Ethereum. Each has its own security model, fees, and tooling.
Bridging assets between layer 1s introduces extra risk: the bridge contract, the custodial model, and the destination chain.
Airdrops are often tied to activity on a specific chain. Completing tasks on the wrong network wastes fees and can interact with copycat contracts.
Always confirm the network in your wallet before you sign. A lookalike token on another chain is a common scam.
