What are airdrops?
7 minute read · beginner
An airdrop is a distribution of tokens, often to people who used a protocol, held an asset, or completed public tasks. Teams use them to bootstrap usage or decentralize ownership.
Eligibility rules are set by the project. They can change, be delayed, or never happen. A page that lists an opportunity is not a promise that you will receive tokens.
Tasks might include using a testnet, bridging assets, or joining a community. Some tasks are used by scammers to phish wallets. Always confirm the URL on the project's own site.
Tax treatment varies by country. Tokens you receive can lose value immediately. Treat any airdrop as optional and unverified until you check official channels yourself.
Wallet safety
Always verify links through the project's official channels. Never provide your seed phrase or private key.
